Official Hip-score (hip score preferably below the average of 17) All of the hip score results are published quarterly in the Kennel Club breed supplement. These publications are send into Dutch IWS Data Base to be used to update this IWS database.

The Irish Water Spaniel Association has no Health Screening requirements. They recommend that breeding stock is hip scored, but it is not mandatory prior to a mating. The IWSA web site references and encourages participation in both the IWSCA BEC Thyroid study and the British Veterinary Association eye scheme (testing).  The website does not discuss elbow scoring.

The Sporting Irish Water Spaniel Club (SIWSC) officially requires Hip score (Kennel Club dysplasia scheme) of both parents. (Without this score the Club will not advertise litters). Results will be published quarterly by the Kennel Club in its Breed Records supplement. Results of individual dogs and their parents can also be found on the Kennel Club web site.
